WIP Wedenesdays

So, I decided to start a WIP Wednesday for a few reasons, but mainly self motivation at documentation of my process. I have 5 projects in motion at the moment, but there's only 3 I can show at the moment.
My goal is to bring what I show you every week to completion by the third week of showing it at the latest.

Here's some drum kit modeling that I'm going to bring to a full high quality render and detailed game object:

Game Art 1 Final

My first scene in UDK! "The Escape"
I'm very proud of this (for now), I modelled, posed, lit, textured, and near everything except for UDK's default smoke particles on the torches.
The idea for this scene was inspired by Polycount's Escape competition.

Process:

Initial concepts & shot idea

Pig redesigned into boar

High Poly ZBrush Models

Imported polypainted models into UDK after Retopology with NEX Tools

From then on I adjusted my composition, lit the scene into a night scene, and painted specular maps for the final shot at the top. And I had a ton of fun.

Works in Progress

It's been a while since I've uploaded any WIPs, so I figured it'd be good to document some of these at least from middle to end. So, here's the "middle" of three of my current projects.

Spider Queen, Traditional Sculpt, Sculpey

3D Lighting Project

Personal Macklemore Caricature

I'm also spending time learning ZBrush right now, which I'm very excited about to throw out future projects with. As well as a game I'm working on called "Ouroboros," look it up on facebook, most of the work is being kept in secret for now.

Bazooka Joe Bubblegum Gun

Here's a gun design I did for my Game Art 1 class, it's really enjoyable to finally be in a class directly focused on games. Couldn't get to a scanner to post my sketches yet, but I'll have the process work ready when I have my 3D model completed for this.

Post Apocalyptic Santa

To fill up the void that school going on break has left me with, I tried out this little character competition. I jumped in a week late into the two week competition, so I experimented a lot in what I'd do to speed up production.

Personally, I'm not satisfied with this as a final piece, but when considering my time frame during the hectic holidays, I think this made me more prepared for emergency freelance jobs. I hope everyone had a great and safe time during the holidays!

End of the semester thoughts.

This has been by far my most satisfying semester at CCS.
I have more than enough education to keep me going for years now.
Sadly, I only have three weeks before my personal projects are set aside.
With that, I share two of my personal favorite pieces I've done this year.

Goomba-like Character Design - Photoshop

3D Interior Render - Maya & Photoshop
Over the break I have a plan to learn enough Javascript build a small gameplay demo for Space Temples (more details at http://sommervilleccs.blogspot.com/) in Unity as well as put together a well-crafted demo reel and portfolio template. Also, spend time with my family, of course.
